Walkabout Interactive Characters

History Has Arrived… and It’s Walking Around!

Take your event beyond the stage and bring history directly into the crowds with Time Jump Histories’ Walkabout Interactive Characters.

Our larger-than-life historical characters roam your festival, fair, museum, town or living history event, creating spontaneous encounters, storytelling, humour and hands-on interaction with visitors.

From medieval soldiers and longbowmen to Victorian rat catchers, smugglers and steampunk dragon hunters — you never know who you might meet!

Why Choose Walkabout Characters?

Unlike a traditional stage performance, our characters move through your event and interact directly with your visitors.

They can:

✔ Meet and greet visitors
✔ Patrol event entrances and camps
✔ Tell stories and share historical facts
✔ Create spontaneous comedy and encounters
✔ Involve children and adults in character-led activities
✔ Encourage audience participation
✔ Add atmosphere throughout the day
✔ Work alongside living history displays and other performers

🐀 The Rat Catcher

From the Middle Ages to the Victorian Era

Meet the man who makes his living keeping the streets, camps and towns free of vermin!

Our Rat Catcher can be portrayed across different periods, carrying his collection of tools, traps and — of course — a rather suspicious number of rat tails.

He'll stop visitors to explain his gruesome but surprisingly profitable trade, search for rats, recruit assistants and proudly explain just how much he earns for every tail delivered to the local authorities.

Expect plenty of humour, audience interaction and questionable hygiene!

⚔️ Wars of the Roses Soldier

Who goes there?

A fully armed soldier patrolling your event, guarding entrances, camps and important locations.

Our Wars of the Roses soldier stays in character as he challenges visitors, checks for suspicious activity, talks about life as a medieval soldier and keeps a watchful eye on the crowds.

Perfect for medieval festivals, heritage events and living history weekends.

🏹 The English Longbowman

Meet an English medieval longbowman and discover what it was really like to serve in the English army.

He can talk about training, battlefield life, weapons, armour and the legendary English longbow — while interacting with visitors throughout the event.

Expect stories from the battlefield, demonstrations and plenty of opportunities for visitors to discover whether they have what it takes to become an English archer!

🏴‍☠️ The 18th-Century Smugglers

Psst… fancy making a little extra money?

Our travelling smugglers are on a secret mission.

They need the public to help move their suspicious cargo around the event before the dreaded Redcoats discover what they're doing!

Visitors can become temporary members of the smuggling gang, help hide or transport goods and try to avoid detection.

But beware…

The Redcoats could be watching!

A highly interactive character experience combining historical storytelling, comedy, roleplay and audience participation.

🐉 The Steampunk Dragon Hunter

Professor Edmond Drake – Dragon Hunter, Explorer & Gentleman Adventurer

Straight from a world of steam-powered inventions, mysterious creatures and dangerous expeditions comes our eccentric Dragon Hunter.

Armed with an impressive collection of curious equipment, the Professor travels through your event searching for evidence of dragons and other mythical beasts.

Visitors can examine his equipment, hear tales of his expeditions and even become temporary members of his dragon-hunting expedition.

Just remember… dragons are rarely as pleased to see you as you are to see them!
